Breaking, often mislabeled as "break-dance", is a dynamic dance performed to high tempo music called "break-beats". The dance originated from the Hip-hop movement in the 1970s. Started in New York City, the Bronx and then spread across the world. Now Breaking is an official sport for the 2024 Paris Olympics (https://olympics.com/en/sports/breaking/).
The goal for this breaking program is to learn breaking moves, have fun and get some exercise. For those that are interested in taking it to the competitive level, this would be a good place to start but further training will be available.
This program is brought to you by Freestyle Movement Dance Company Ltd.
founded as a non-profit created to support Edmonton's freestyle dance community. The class is taught by Link. With over 10 years of teaching experience from various studios in Edmonton including Dance Code Studio, Darlene's Dance academy, and Windermere Music academy.
